(More customer reviews)I was so disappointed in this item. The first package we received contained a totally smashed cool tube. It seems like these are packaged from the manufacturer and Amazon just ships them on to the consumer, and the packaging is NOT sufficient for the cool tube. There is only a very thin foam layer to protect it. Amazon VERY quickly corrected the issue and we had a new package at our door in 48 hours.
The light was easy to install with my own chains. I could NOT figure out how to use the pulley hangers, and there are NO instructions in the box.... Reflectors?? I would not call the 1.5" metal strips that come with half circle metal mounts reflectors, nor is there an easy way to attach these to the tube, just didn't work, again, NO instructions.
Bright is an understatement, the bulb fires quickly and gets so bright you'll want to wear sunglasses if you are anywhere around it. (Literally!). I was so excited for the digital ballast, which, is supposed to save energy and run cooler and quieter than the traditional ballasts, NOPE! The ground plug on this ballast would fall out constantly and it gets EXTREMELY EXTREMELY hot!!! I returned this item due to the heat from the ballast, it has no internal fan, and NO RF SHIELDING! You can not listen to the radio or WiFi speakers or anything that runs on an RF signal if you are within 20 ft. of the ballast. VERY disappointing. I don't think the ballast was meant to get that hot, when we first ran the ballast it got warm at best. It took about 2 weeks for the ballast to get extremely hot, I honestly think something inside broke.
You may also run into heat issues depending on the size of your room, theres a good chance you'll run into heat issues using this lamp. I thought the purpose of the cool tube was to keep the light cool, but I had NO luck there either, even with 2 in-line fans that move over 500cfm (My space is aprox. 4X4, my temps were aprox 90-100 degrees F). Also you will need an adapter or reducer to properly connect fans to the cool tube. Don't go anywhere near the cool tube while the light is on, with or without fans, you will burn your skin.
I returned the item and went back to my CFL's and haven't noticed a slow down in growth since switching back.
