(More customer reviews)Arrived quickly, no damage. Lightweight to hang. I like the integrated ballast because I just didn't want to mess with electrical components. Its very bright when it gets warmed up. It works great for a small area, or just one orchid or two. Its recommended for 2 sqft, so as long as you have a space that size its very effective. Some of my leaves got sunburned because they were not used to the HID light, so I recommend hanging light about 3 ft away then adjusting as time goes on. My only problem with this light is that Im already looking to upgrade, turns out I need 8 sqft. But it's a good buy for the price.

(More customer reviews)I first bought the LED grow lite to start some plants. It worked well but caused some 'stretching' in the stems so the plants would not stand up. I changed to this system and, even though it uses more energy and is warmer, the hood is well ventilated and the heat is not all that oppressive. The real difference was in the strength of the plants after about two weeks with the new light. My plants have taken off and are doing very well indeed. The extra cost of the system and the electric bill have been more than offset by the health of my plants. Perhaps I'll go back to the LED to reduce heat and energy consumption and see what happens to my 'babies'. Good product and works exactly as advertised. It really only burns the same power as a 150 watt incandescent bulb so the cost isn't really an issue.

(More customer reviews)Do not use the plug that this company intends you to wire this ballast with. It is a massive safety hazard. The design was clearly made to loosely hold very thin wires. In order to use proper wiring, going to your local hardware store and buy a proper plug. Clearly the plug was designed by someone who knows nothing about electricity and wanted to save the money a tid bit of money.
You WILL set your house on fire if you use the plug that came with this ballast.
Otherwise ballast does exactly what you need it to at a great price.

I started to use a computer fan on the capacitor since it seemed to run fairly hot and the fan keeps it at a cool comfortable temp.
SO, i started using the light right out of the box and had no problems. Then, after a bit i started to smell burning plastic but was unable to determine where it was coming from. After doing some searching online for similar accounts i found the problem... The reflector that comes in the package has a thin blue plastic sheet that is supposed to be removed before use (was to protect it during shipping). However, nowhere in the box was any notice of such a thing or as i can recall any instructions whatsoever. So essentially the smell was indeed from burning plastic and unfortunately some was melted solid to the reflector and won't come off.
But already the smell is much much less and I have less to worry about the fire hazard that was present.
Overall
Great product, does exactly what it is supposed to and my plants are growing fantastically
Capacitor runs hot so adding a small quiet fan is nice to cool its heatsink
REMOVE THE PLASTIC COVER on the reflector, less you want to do some serious damage via fire or destroyed bulb.
