I bought one of these cans for myself about 3 years ago and shortly after, I recommended them to be used at the nursery I work at (we have 3 there). I have been impressed with the quality of Dramm's watering wands, nozzles, and valves that led me to pick them when I went shopping for watering cans.
This is a well designed watering can and a decent price (for a serious gardener). Filled all the way to the top it holds 1.5 gallons. The large opening makes it convenient for mixing chemicals and rinsing but allows liquid to spill out easily if the can is not held steadily. The handle feels great and it's not hollow (unlike some watering cans that allow liquid from in the can to pass through the inside of the handle, requiring extra rinsing work and more places for critters to hide).
The face (or whatever you call the part with the tiny holes water comes through) of the rose is removable - an important feature for cleaning. In some cases after putting the face of the rose back on it would leak out through the sides of the rose, but it would always go back to normal by simply adjusting the fit. Rose must be tightly installed on the spout to make sure it won't pop off during delicate jobs.
The ones purchased for work have ribs on the inside of the handle, my personal one doesn't. The ribs make it a little more difficult to clean but I assume they also make the handle stronger. I don't know why they're different, but it's not a big deal to me.
Things I don't like:
The base of the can seems to be a separate part of plastic connected to the rest of the can. Because of this there is a small space where sand and similarly sized things can collect inside the can. It would be better if the can was all one piece (excluding the rose).
Durability - I'm honestly quite disappointed in the durability of this can. There are tiny cracks all over the can that indicate the aging of the plastic. Only the handle and the base don't have these cracks. Perhaps the handle has higher quality plastic than the rest of the can. Just recently my rose broke, probably partly due to being twisted off all the time.
I assume leaving the can out in the sun has weakened the plastic. Being aware that sunlight weakens plastic I would try to keep the can in the shade as much as possible, but I didn't always put the can in the shade after each use. And, no matter what a watering can will inevitably come in contact with direct sunlight.
This can's durability along with some minor design flaws gives it 3 stars in my book. Other than that it gets it's job done very well.
Note: This product may have had some improvements since I purchased it a few years ago.
