(More customer reviews)The LED whole sale web site indicates one light can illuminate 6 feet square. This is misleading. If you want to illuminate at 2,000 microeinsteins (mE) per square meter, which is noon in the tropics, it will take more lights.
Looking at the energy of one 660nm photon, 2,000 mE per meter squared, equates to about 400 watts of light. Given the efficiency of the light, it will take 5 to light one meter square, versus the 2 suggested by LED whole sale.
Note that a 1,000 watt HID light falls short of 2,000 mE. HID emits light in a broad spectrum, and much of it is useless to plants. A 660 nm LED in contrast emits light at one of the peak absorption wavelength for chlorophyll, so about 85% of the light is absorbed.
One more thing, the plants need really good root development and nutrient delivery at 2,000 mE of lighting. My plants started in soil, and developed a nutrient deficiency. I ramped up the concentration of Miracle grow, and the plants improved, however still showed signs of nutrient deficiency at a 400% concentration of Miracle grow. I removed the plants from soil, and put them into direct water culture hydro, no more signs of deficiency.
